Fall Campaign Kickoff Pancake Breakfast
Saturday morning saw hardworking Democratic Committee persons playing host to the Democratic Voters of Grimes County for a Fall Campaign Kickoff Pancake Breakfast event at the Democratic HQ in Anderson. The weather was agreeable if warm. Ashford and Oliver Funeral Home provided three tents against the possibility of rain. We didn't need that protection, but the tents were a welcome relief on a hot muggy morning.
The committee Chairpersons were: Phil and Lyn Hoffman on pancakes and sausage; Susannah Lindsey on beverages; Marie Kampbell, and the County Democratic Elected Officials and Candidates serving; Vicki Chumly on Donations; Wilbur Sargent and Mildred Edwards on Grounds; Genie Mitchel and Ruby Grissett on Headquarters Administration; and a host of loyal party members doing a host of details that resulted in a very successful event. The food was delicious, the service was great, and no one had to wait in line for anything! Over 200 people attended the breakfast, and a special thank you to the folks who purchased a ticket and considered it a donation. We will try to honor your confidence in us.
A tip of the hat to the members of the other party who attended our event: Republican Party County Chair Malcom Green, County Judge Betty Shiftlet, County Commissioner Pam Finke, County Sheriff Don Sowell, and Anderson Mayor Gail Sowell showed their bipartisan support for anything Grimes County, and we certainly appreciated their fellowship. Iola City Councilman Jerry Norman dropped by for a visit. I'm not sure of his party affiliation.
The whole affair was held together by the music of “The Albert Mattern Band.” A special wish of condolences for Albert who lost his wife recently. It was good to see him working! A special thanks to Oak Farms Dairy for the milk and OJ, The Imhoff Store, Allphin Barbeque and Smokehouse for pancake mix, syrup, butter, and etc., and to Ashford and Oliver for the tents. Watch the Examiner for an official “Thank You” from the Grimes County Democratic Party.
